New Elder Abuse UnitDA Forms New Unit to Fight Elder Abuse

In early 2010 Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey launched the Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit in response to the changing demographics of Jefferson County and the need for vigorous prosecution of crimes that are perpetrated against the elderly.  The Elder Abuse Unit is the only one of its kind in the State of Colorado and is leading the charge in this type of prosecution.  Working closely with local law enforcement agencies, Adult Protective Services, private organizations and professional communities the Elder Abuse Unit locates and holds accountable those who commit these crimes.

Friends Around Me??

A new social network application called “Friends Around Me” comes with features that are very attractive to kids. The application is designed for the iPhone and iPad. It combines the function of Facebook and Twitter and allows those using the site to pinpoint the precise physical location of others using the site.

A task force of civic and community leaders, headed by District Attorney Scott Storey, started work to bring the first Boys and Girls Club to Jefferson County in 2007. 

O’Connell Middle School in Lakewood is the proposed home of this partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, Jeffco Public Schools, government officials, and community and business  leaders.

The District Attorney and the TRIAD are offering free cell phones to seniors for emergency use. The phones are programmed to dial only 911 but can be a valuable resource for many older adults.

The District Attorney’s Family Violence Unit was created to serve victims of domestic violence and streamline the prosecution process.

Recovery Court:  Jefferson County has joined the national movement towards a successful justice strategy for dealing with drug dependent offenders and their impact on our communities.  Recovery courts, also called drug courts, can quickly identify the chemically dependent and actively intervene to break the cycle of substance abuse, addiction and crime.


triadTRIAD in the First Judicial District 

Triad is a partnership between those in the criminal justice system, community groups and volunteer senior citizens. TRIAD's purpose is to develop and implement crime prevention and education programs for older adults.  Meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at Arvada Estates, 7175 Kipling Street.  Everyone is invited!

It can take hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to clean up the wreckage caused by identity theft and other economic crimes. The District Attorney's Economic Crime Unit specializes in education and prosecution.


CheezoInternet Safety and Investigations
The Jefferson and Gilpin County District Attorney's Child Sex Offender Internet Investigation (CSOII) Program combines strict enforcement with prevention through education. Through the Internet Safety Program, internet safety training has been given to over 5,000 kids. The program is valuable for parent groups as well, and has been modified for kids and adults of all ages.
