Pretrial Services
provides the Jefferson County/First Judicial District with support services, which assist the courts in efficiently processing defendants through the different phases of their criminal court proceedings. The operational units that deliver these services include:
~ Bond Commissioners/Pretrial Officers
~ Pretrial Services Supervision
Upon a conviction, the Community Services program provides the sentencing judges with restorative sentencing alternatives, which allow offenders to perform useful public service labor instead of incarceration as recompense to the community for their offense. The operational units that deliver these services include:
~ Community Services Supervision
~ Community Service Work Crews
This program provides privatized community based correctional supervision, evaluation and treatment service as alternatives to incarceration of offenders in state and local correctional institutions. This is accomplished through program staff direction of private contract providers of the following services:
- Community corrections residential (halfway house) and non-residential supervision services;
- Detoxification Services and substance abuse treatment to divert public inebriates from jail; and
- Psychological Evaluation Services to determine acceptability for community sentencing and to design offender supervision plans
This privatized program provides Jefferson County residents and government agency staff with conflict resolution and group decision-making assistance through trained volunteer mediators.
This program provides policy planning, criminal justice research, and evaluation services for the agencies of the Jefferson County/First Judicial District justice system.
The unit functions as the management, planning, policy development, contract agent, and research and evaluation unit for the Justice Services Division. Staff consists of the Director, one Administrative Coordinator, and one Administrative Specialist, who is shared with the Community Corrections Unit.
