Re: Cedar4Mayor Campaign launched as part of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

Jefferson County, CO – Cedar Dog, an eleven-year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, and a rescued dog herself, today announces her candidacy for Mayor. Cedar will make a formal announcement at a press conference to be held at the JeffCo Fairgrounds on Thursday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m., where she’ll be joined by supporters, including Jefferson County Commissioners J. Kevin McCasky, Kathy Hartman and Faye Griffin, whose support will help give the canine campaign a leg up.

Cedar4Mayor (www.cedar4mayor.com) hopes to raise $25,000 to support Table Mountain Animal Center’s new animal shelter project, Foothills Animal Shelter, slated to open by Fall 2010. Table Mountain Animal Center is the second largest animal shelter in the Denver-metro area — taking in 10,000 animals each year.

Cedar has a big mission and needs the help of voters everywhere. Her candidacy is not bound by a single jurisdiction, rather, she is running anywhere and everywhere which gives animal lovers an opportunity to be part of her incredible grassroots movement. Voting Cedar4Mayor, means supporting the happiness and welfare of all companion animals and the environments in which they live. Cedar was quoted as saying, “There is not a day to waste. Right now, a huge part of my plan is to assist with the funding for the new Foothills Animal Shelter.”

By encouraging citizens to cast a vote at www.Cedar4Mayor.com, Cedar hopes to truly make a difference and get “paw-litical for the animals.” A vote is cast with every $1 donation to her campaign, which goes to the shelter fund.

"We are delighted with the support for our new shelter from the Cedar4Mayor campaign. We feel they are a great role model for other groups in the community who may wish to help our cause as well," stated Jill McFadden, Executive Director of Table Mountain Animal Center.

Cedar is the author of two books, Doggone Green, and the sequel, Doggone Green and Clean, which provide environmental tips and solutions for pets and their people. Cedar works as a therapy dog, blogs, and makes a variety of public appearances to promote her environmental agenda.  www.cedar4mayor.com

About The New Table Mountain Animal Center Facility
The new shelter will remain an open-admissions facility — never turning an animal away. The new Foothills Animal Shelter is currently under construction on three acres of land just west of 6th Avenue and Indiana near Colorado Mills Mall and the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

The design/build team is Weitz/Sholar. The facility will be approximately 30,000 square feet in a single story building so as not to block the mountain view for fairground visitors and for nearby residents. The estimated completion of the project will be by the Fall of 2010.
