Jefferson County Commissioners unveil first-of-its-kind hybrid snowplow
Some companies have used the 2009 International Model 7300 Hybrid as a delivery truck, but Jefferson County is the first to have outfitted the hybrid truck as a snowplow. The truck has been shown to reduce hydrocarbon emissions by as much as 65 percent.

The county has updated its Non-residential Vacancy Inventory database to version 1.2.  The database allows users and interested parties to search for vacant non-residential parcels in unincorporated Jefferson County. Jeffco Planning & Zoning Survey Results Show the Desire for Greater Public Outreach
The Jefferson County Planning & Zoning Division recently completed a survey of its stakeholders to gauge their interest in learning more about planning and zoning matters.  A total of 192 completed surveys were completed, both online and through hard copies returned to the division.  The responses indicated there is a strong public interest in learning more about planning and zoning topics, in fact 65 percent of respondents expressed a desire for more information on planning and zoning issues.

Jeffco Selected to Host Major Technology Conference

Jeffco Planning & Zoning Division Nationally Recognized for Large Animal Study
The Jefferson County Planning & Zoning Division has been recognized with an Achievement Award by the National Association of Counties for its Large Animal Study.  The study began in January 2004 with the goal of defining potential and perceived issues with large animals and how best to address those issues.  Large animals include horses, mules, donkeys, sheep, cattle, goats, swine, buffalo, beefalo, llamas, alpacas, emu and ostrich.

Mandatory Dog Licensing Goes Into Effect Countywide July 1; Will Expedite Return of Lost Pets, Enhance Public Safety
Beginning July 1, pet owners throughout Jefferson County and parts of Adams County will be required to license their dogs. The program, which has been in effect in unincorporated Jefferson County since 1994, will be expanded to all the municipalities, including Arvada, Golden, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge and Westminster.

County Adds Areas to Online Property Information Tool
Today, the Jefferson County Planning & Zoning Division updated its Non-Residential Vacancy Inventory by adding vacant properties located in the unincorporated north plains areas of the county.  In November 2006, the county launched this one-of-a-kind database that allows users to search for information on permitted land use activities, location, size, water and sanitation services, tax information, and how long the property will take to develop based on county development review procedures.

Jeffco Commissioner and District Attorney Led Effort to Get Identity Theft Law for Colorado: New Law Goes Into Effect July 1
Colorado has been one of only two states without a law outlawing identity theft. That changes July 1, thanks to Jeffco Commissioner Jim Congrove, who realized the need for such a law four years ago and has been rallying support for it ever since.

Colorado Supreme Court Sides With Jeffco in Airport Land Development Lawsuit
The Colorado Supreme Court recently upheld, in a 7-0 unanimous vote, the decision of the Colorado Court of Appeals supporting Jefferson County's position that it negotiated in good faith with the BJC Corporation when it did not allow that company to develop property at the Jefferson County airport.

Larry Benshoof Named Road & Bridge Director
Jefferson County has named Larry Benshoof director of the county's Road & Bridge Division. He will replace Wiley Timbrook who is retiring from the county after 35 years of service. As Road & Bridge Director, Benshoof will monitor all Road & Bridge operations in the county's districts, ensure cost effective use of county funds and budgeting for the division, prioritize road upgrade projects for the county and respond to citizen concerns.

Today, the Jefferson County Public Trustee's office launched a new online feature that will provide immediate access to individuals seeking information on foreclosure records.  Until now, people requesting this information would need to call or visit the Public Trustee's office and a staff member would retrieve the records.

Jeffco Hosts Open House for Environmental Assessment of Major Intersection
The Jefferson County Division of Highways and Transportation, in association with the Colorado Department of Transportation, is requesting citizen input regarding an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the West Bowles Avenue and South Wadsworth Boulevard intersection. The purpose of the EA is to identify and evaluate a reasonable range of intersection improvement alternatives that meet the project purpose and need (to improve capacity, safety and level of service).
